Farm Day

Today we had Rockin'A Ranch bring some of their farm animals to our "South Farm".  Farmer Ivey brought a turkey, cow, sheep, pony, goat, chicken and our favorite the bunny.  She shared with us how the farmer, his wife and the children worked on a farm.  We learned about some of the different animals and what they provide for us.  We had a great day down on "South Farm"!

Farmer Ivey brought us Melvin the Bunny.

This is Miss Susie.  She gives us milk.  To get milk from the cow you have to squeeze her udders.  Miss Susie wears a bell so that when the farmer needs her he can listen for the bell.
Mr. Gobbler the Turkey.  He has feathers and he has a beard.  You can see it hanging down.

Farmer Ivey wears an apron to wipe her hands on when they get dirty.  She wears the bonnet on her head to keep the sun out of her eyes.

This is Bubble Gum the Pony.  Her job on the farm is to give the children rides.

Farmer Ivey showed us how to milk the cow.  Here is some of the milk she got.

This is Snoopy the Sheep.  We get wool from sheep to make a scarf, mittens, sweaters and hats to keep us warm when it's cold.  Snoopy was very soft to touch.

We got to see a chicken named Ms. Penny.  Farmer Ivey told us that a brown chicken lays brown eggs and a white chicken lays white eggs.  She also taught us that chickens do not lay eggs in the winter.

We decided that Melvin was the softest animal to touch.

This is Anna Belle the goat.  She too can give us milk.  We learned that a goat has a pupil shaped like a rectangle instead of a circle, like ours.  Anna Belle is going to have 2 babies.  We call a baby goat a kid.

It's not Miss Susie but she will work.  Miss Bessie is our school cow that Farmer Webb and Farmer Sigmon got for us so we could see what it what like to milk a cow.  We decided that we enjoy having our milk right in our very own frig instead of having to go out and milk the cow for our morning glass of milk!
